Andy's Ubuntu FAQ
Useful Infos For Novices (and many long-time users alike)
OK, so here's a small list of knowledge i have obtained over the years in the world of Linux (Ubuntu and Debian specifically):
Pronounciation: "Ubuntu" is properly pronounced oo-boon-too, not oo-bunt-oo. Just a pet peeve but still important :)
Specific Programs and Services:
VoIP
SIP(Session Initiate Protocol) Phone or Voice over Internet Protocol

If you are runing X-Lite on a Dell 1521 inspiron laptop suggest you look at "sflphone" instead seems to work a bit better than X-Lite no phone book though. We would like to here from you if you are having problems with X-Lite on other equipment.
Problems with Windows reading K3b author'd DVD's
I don't believe this article is any longer valid Guttsy Gibbon is just to old think it should be archived also has nothing to do with security so don't know why it appears in this menu structure - Delboy
A problem occurred the other day when a DVD video project (Video TS) burned with K3b was unreadable within Windows. When inserted on a windows machine, it would show as a blank DVD, yet on my Ubuntu desktop it showed the Audio TS and Video TS folders and played with no problems what so ever.

How to install a firewall in Debian.
Introduction.
What is a firewall?
Just as a building has a firewall and possibly a fire door to try to isolate a fire on one side of the wall, preventing it spreading to the other side, a computer firewall does much the same. However, it's not concerned with fires, but more to the point, unauthorised entry and use. It most commonly, sits between the computer and the Internet, although in complex networks, there can be others within the overall system.
Copying commercial DVD's.
Introduction.
Contrary to the title, this page ''is not'' about pirating DVD's. We at Soslug, recognise all forms of copyright and licensing, however, there is also an argument that fair use is being stifled by encryption introduced by commercial operators. It is in this context, the following information is offered. There are all sorts of reasons you may wish to have a copy of a commercial DVD. Young children for example, are notorious for destroying discs through carelessness.

Mystery of the disappearing sound.
The problem
After installing PCLinuxOS on an Acer 5051AWXMi laptop, the sound would disappear whenever I rebooted the computer.
This was strange behavior, as when ran it from the Live CD, it worked perfectly. Furthermore, if I ran the Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Configurator in a terminal, (command = alsaconf), the sound would work yet again until the next time I rebooted the machine.
Clearly from the afore mentioned behavior, something wasn't happening during the boot sequence - part 1.
