Southend on Sea Linux User Group - History

Join SoSLUG the Premier Linux Network

SoSLUG started from humble beging's at the founder's home "Derek Shaw" in February 2003, although this enviroment was fine for many of SoSLUG members their where many weeks when the parking and venue facilites proved very much a strain on resources. Through a chance meeting with Graham Harwood a successful New Media Artist, SoSLUG forged links with the then Jelliedeel Shed to what is now known as MediaShed.

The MediaShed is itself a wonderful environment for people to chat and forge links of their own for communities, organisations and groups that they themselves care about. By supporting groups such as the Leigh Film Society, SoSEAN (Southend on Sea Electronic Arts Network), Sundown (Poetry Group) and Telephasic (Media Event) to name only a few, we aim to deliver on the ambitions of the various groups themselves and in addition help everyone understand the benefits of Linux and Open Source software.

We would enjoy meeting with you or your group at any one of our meetings, times of which are posted on the about page. It is neither expected or required that you provide your own equipment simply to learn about Linux we have sufficient equipment at the MediaShed.

For your convienience in line with other Linux interest groups we provide a list of local Linux user groups which may be more suitable for your current location, if the entry listed is incorrect for any reason please notify "linux at soslug.org" we will be happy to correct this entry for you. If you are a member of or a host or participate with a Linux user group yourself and care to foster relations with SoSLUG or that of the MediaShed to collaborate on projects events or workshops that we ourselvels run or would be interested running your own we would only be happy to talk with you or your ideas and ambitions.
