Linux has a fantastically large community of like minded people who develope, design, build, OS software and software applications for Linux, usually for little or no financial cost for themselves. Such software can be freely obtained via public domain (Internet). How many times have you been advised to purchase new hardware with commercial based software because it is to slow, Linux extends the shelf life of your old or recycled PC equipment is what we at SoSLUG and the MediaShed are all about.

Linux is the only software you can obtain that is designed for the purpose of teaching, this software that is specifically supplied with it's original source code can, depending on the terms of the license be edited or modified. It is the only OS that comes with a free version of the compiler used to create the OS in the first place. Linux community allow and encourage you to look at edit or modify the code supplied to your own ends. Commercial software is exactly the opposite, you are not allowed to look, edit, modify the source code or machine code (Usually the source code is with held) and you would be liable for prosecution if you tried.

So come to the Shed and meet other SoSLUG members start doing things for yourselves by building your own project, helping others or getting tooled up on trash technology. SoSlug is not run with a view to profit and so we don't see you as a customer or client, but as a key player in making a difference for yourself and others! The skills that you'll learn by being part of SoSLUG are particularly valuable, because you can apply them at home, school or at work for almost nothing but your time.
