Web design although now incorporated into the SoSLUG menu, is actually a separate site, Each site has its own menu structure, in the left sidebar. The Web design menu uses the primary links, so its top level items also appear on the horizontal navigation bar.
Both top level, primary and secondary menu items are hard wired into the Garland, and Southend themes.
The SoSLUG site itself has a separate menu called Linux, so its top level menu items differ from the primary links in the navigation bar. These are based on views and provide an alternative way of navigating the site, based primarily on the search box, and taxomony.
because both web design and SoSLUG menu's are becoming unwieldy to maintain, its proposed they be split up, into a number of sub menu's. To accomplish this, the top level Linux menu items must be anchored in the primary links menu. This is not an issue for Web design, but how do we reconcile these two alternate ways of navigating the SoSLUG sites?

web designers should strive
News and reviews
I would like to discuss where on the menu News and reviews appears I just don't think the "about" section is the right place for it. New Linux news is worthy of greater prominence in my view along with the Linux events. Also the content seems to be getting a bit stagnant of late with no significant changes, Does this not weaken our ranking in google, if content and the front page is not updated very often?
Link menus by node
Since SOSLUG does not use primary links as its topics menu, the primary link items on the horizontal navigation bar differ from the (level 1) items on the Linux menu. One solution would be to add a menu item to the primary links, called "News", and for its path, point to the node in the Linux menu.
It may be advantageous to create a "news" content type, similar to forums, as this would help simplify the designs of views.
Space on the horizontal navigation bar is limited, and promoting items from lower levels in the menu structure only compounds this problem. If the Linux menu is broken down into smaller chunks, to make it more manageable, the Nav bar will be needed to link these (menus) together.
You can currently see the effect of this, if you click on, About SoSLUG > Forums. This is a single level page, because forum topics are in a separate menu, so Linux menu doesn't show them. They can only be accessed by the view on that page. The menu's are unlinked. A procedure which fixes this is described under networking > Drupal workshop > menu structure, and has already been implemented under the web design portion of the site, where you can see its effect of the change by selecting XML overview.
