Export view

Exporting and Importing a Drupal view

This procedure was tested in Drupal 6.2.x and assumes the two versions of the views module on the export and import site are the same. You must also have the necessary privileges to access the views module on both sites.

Note: Export/Import is not the same as cloning. Cloning should be used if you want to make a copy of a view on the same site. I.e. to backup a view before making changes.
Use Export / Import if you need to copy a view between sites, either on the same server, or a different server.

Networking

Networking

Aspects of setting up and maintaining a server, and Local Area Networks in general are covered here, so material here is probably aimed at a more advanced user. The majority of servers around the world today are based on Apache software. A LAMP server is a server running Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP. MySQL is a database and PHP is a server side programming language. These elements are the basis of Content Management Systems (CMS), one example of which is Drupal, the engine that powers this site.

Drupal 5 with Lucid Lynx 10.04.1 LTS

Lucid Lynx and Drupal 5

Introduction

If you are a Drupal lover like us or not, it could not have escaped you that Drupal doesn't function very well in Lucid Lynx the reason is neither Drupal's fault nor Ubuntu. The fault lies this time with PHP (PHP Hypertext Processor) Lucid Lynx uses LAMP (Linux, Apache, Mysql, PHP). Many components around Drupal, Linux and Apache core are updated often and in some case regularly PHP is one such component.

Drupal Site

Drupal Server Update

It may have escaped everyone's attention but this SoSLUG site is now running on Drupal 6 a significant web site upgrade.

This upgrade was not without it's problems, not least of which was the lack of drupal_wiki profile which still is only available for Drupal 5 and is core to the development of this site. Drupal Modules upgrades also proved problematic especially the views module.

Drupal Howto

Drupal on your Localhost Desktop PC

SoSLUG is changing, with membership increasing almost weekly we have decided to provide more help and assistance to our members by providing formal workshops on a monthly basis covering subjects that as a group, our members would like more information on. These formal workshops will take place each 2nd Thursday in the month starting with me Derek Shaw on the 9th April covering the Drupal installation. Future workshops will include MPD (Mplayer deamon) and client applications by Dan Patynski and Ardour and Jack workshops by Gary Cordery.

Mail server progress

Well I have my mail server up and running. I have found this Howto on setting up a mail server which can host multiple domains.

Rather than reinvent the wheel I have been following it. I have also been using a book called "The book of postfix" by Ralf Hidebrandt and Patrick Koetter, published by No Starch Press.

Asus EEEPC Networking

Asus EEEPC Networking problem

We seem to have a steady stream of Asus eeePC lately most with Linux Xandros as a base operating system, the problem this time revolved around the failure of the eeePC to communicate via an encrypted network. In the main most wireless network routers are capable of between two or three levels of network encryption across the wireless access point.

These range from :

Smoothwall express 3.0 Firewall - Project to reuse an old pc as a firewall/router

Like a lot of people I have at least one old pc kicking around in the loft, so I decided to put it to better use than gathering dust and install some linux on it! I have a home network and have never got round to buying a router for it, instead relying on pc to share the internet connection. This started out many years ago with an old 486 running or should I say crawling Windows 98, but all it had to do was route the traffic and it did remarkably well. A few years on and a couple more PC's on the network this had to be replaced.

Networking

Local Area And Wide Area Networking

Non techies can be forgiven for getting very confused with regards to Networks the hardware used and it's configuration, most would want or believe the hardware should work form the CD it comes with. This however is not always the case, if it is a router modem you are after their is no need what so ever to use the CD provided by the ISP (Internet Service Provider) or that of the Router manufacturer. This is true of all routers whether you buy a router over the counter or if this is provided by your ISP.
